How the procedure works
Before
- Clinical exam and ultrasound of the varicocele
- Long fasting usually not required
During
- Local anesthesia only, no general anesthesia
- Catheter inserted via a vein in the groin or arm
- The affected vein closed with tiny metal coils, 45–60 minutes
After & Recovery
- Usually discharged the same day
- Return to work within a day or two
- Avoid strenuous activity for a week
