Tumor Ablation

Technique using heat or cold energy to destroy tumour cells directly inside the body without surgery.

What is this procedure?

Tumour ablation (thermal ablation) uses heat or extreme cold energy to destroy cancer cells at their location directly. The procedure is guided by CT or ultrasound to reach the tumour precisely.

How the procedure works

Before

  • Stop blood thinners as directed
  • Fast 6–8 hours before the procedure
  • Bring your most recent imaging

During

  • Local anaesthesia and sometimes light sedation
  • Precise imaging guidance to the tumour
  • Procedure takes 30–90 minutes

After & Recovery

  • Monitoring for a few hours post-procedure
  • Typically discharged same-day or next day
  • Follow-up imaging at 4–6 weeks

Who is this for?

  • Small liver tumours not suitable for surgery
  • Localised lung and kidney tumours
  • Patients who cannot tolerate major surgery

Suitability is confirmed after a full clinical assessment — this information does not replace a medical consultation.
